While watching TV, I sometimes get the feeling to get back into my caricature roots. Last night I got that itch (and it probably didn’t hurt that I’d just finished looking at some of Joe Bluhm’s work. Anyway, below is a sketch of Adam Lambert from American Idol. If I get a lot of response from my sketches, then I’ll be sure to do more and post em.

Since today is the 25th Wrestlemania, what better way to celebrate then with these sketches. I happened to have done these on the same piece of computer paper as the last. I’m not as wild about them as I was the last, but the subject matter is more recognizable. I hope you guys enjoy these. 

Okay, I’ll admit. This first one is pretty amateurish. I’m still gettin’ back into the swing of caricature however.

I definitely felt this one is better. It was done on the same piece of paper too.

I’ve got this fear of sketchbooks that I need to get over. I’m endlessly looking for the “perfect” sketchbook. I’m looking for one that’s nice, and easy to travel with. If you know any good online vendors, let me know below.

Well, if nothing else brings you in…

I wanted to practice with the female form and produced the following sketch. Growing up, women had been much harder for me to draw then guys. I used to be best at making blocky characters with sharp angles to my art. With those tendencies I drew more guys and got better at them. Recently, I’ve be working hard at being better at drawing women. The example below, is a good step in the right direction, yet there are tons of parts I could nit-pick about. I’ll spare you. A few months back I mentioned something I do with my Nephews. They’ve sent me a drawing and I’ve sent back a sketch depicting my version. Well, I opened my mail last week and was amazed to find, that my (soon to be) 5 year old niece has joined in on the act. Although, I highly suspect her momma was behind it. Anyway, it was something nice from my niece. I thought I’d share it with the STCommunity.
