As I mentioned during my new storyline debut (Wednesday’s strip), I had the pleasure of being reviewed by Jinx Tiger of Tally Road. The review was very positive toward the strip, yet it seemed honest as well. I would never confuse myself as the second coming of Bill Watterson, but it was a really fun read for me.
I really encourage anyone here that is a fan to give it a look, as his impressions of the material gave me some insights from a different perspective that I truly believe you’d get a kick out of. Reading the review also has helped reinvigorate my creativity toward Devon and the gang. Don’t get me wrong, STC is a mad passion of mine, but I’ve also have taken on extra responsibilities that have given me less time to create, and therefore, has zapped a little of the spark that I’ve had toward the strip. To put it another way, cartoonists are like children and puppies, we live off attention and we’re cute. I’m looking at you Dave and Kris (not that they’ll ever read that). But to be serious for a sec, we as cartooning performers typically operate our creations (at the beginning) from a loss. Our pay is feedback such as this review, and of course comments and emails.
I appreciate anyone who thinks of Devon and King every week, enough to type in that URL or, better yet, hit that bookmark. That realization will never be lost on me. Somewhere, this post turned from get a load of this review, to a love letter to you guys. Anyway, if you love me as much as I love you, then give it a read and let me know what you think below. Peace.
