Thank you for readin’ this, friend…

Thought you’d gotten smart and left again…

This blog is poo – about that I am con-fid-ent***

And when you’re through with readin’ -

The total comments will stall at 2.

And you will see – the worst insult will be from me

And then Carlisle’s ass will say – please Winnie don’t write again…

***(let me slide on that one!)

winnie_comiccolorsmI was all set to write about one thing this week, but something I heard on April 25th  stopped me dead in my tracks… no pun intended.  What kind of self-respecting hag (I left off a word, there) would I be if I didn’t talk about the passing of the talented “Mame” dame Bea Arthur?

Now, I’m sure you’ve all seen your share of “Thank You For Being A Friend” shrines and such (and if you haven’t, make one, dammit!), but yes – “Golden Girls” love even reaches to webcomics run by men who shave their head and are occasionally referred to as “Gun Show”.  “Golden Girls” love stretches from purple mountains majesty to that sculpture of Lionel Richie’s head in the “Hello” video… above the fruited plane. (editor’s note: I made a reference about this at work today…weird.)

In her comedy and in regard to social issues she felt passionately about, she always seemed like a real-life Maude.  And maybe I identify with her because we’re both so-so lookin’ chicks who love self-deprecating humor and possess huskier-than-thou voices. No, seriously – Bea Arthur, Marsha Warfield and I were in a secret club, and instead of a handshake, we just hit the low notes in “Duke of Earl”.  *Marsha Warfield** starts running after Winnie for mentioning the secret*

Anyway, of course, I didn’t really know Bea Arthur personally, but the characters she brought to life have touched mine and those of many of my friends and family.

Thanks again for your time,

Winnie

**Despite the involvement of Marsha Warfield, no Winnies were harmed in the making of this blog.  Readership levels – maybe.  Lionel Richie – definitely.

Golden Girls are awesome. I like the younger one. She’s a ho.

  2. Greg Bulmash says:

At least she had a heckuva life.

  3. dgriff13 says:

haven’t watched Golden Girls in like.. well… ever. All I know is the “oldest character” is actually the youngest actress.. which was bizarre.

  4. Carlisle says:

Another great post Winnie. You know, I heard about 3 or 4 references to Bea Arthur the day she died before I put 2 and 2 together on that.

Yeah, you know, I noticed your note about having made a reference that day, too, but I was hoping it had to do with the “Hello” video.

Thank you so much for placing the picture as you did! And now I’m a liar, because there were 3 comments (by the way, thanks, guys!). I need to be like Melissa Rivers and call my Mom in to post here, too – maybe get it to 4!

Nobody was more seminal to webcomics than Bea, her . . . aw crap I can’t do it. What a bizarre, funny tribute to see on STC. Something bad needs to happen to Melissa Rivers as well, she’s famous for having zero talents and a weird mom.
