Devon in a Different Style.
I got a Tweet from a reader yesterday that tellin’ me about my last blog update. There was reference that I shoulda done somethin’ different for April Fools. So, before goin’ to bed last night I watched TV and did some sketchin’. Below is the result of one of them. As I scanned in the piece it occurred to me that a good April Fools woulda been to tell you guys that I’m changing the art style of STC.
Would you have believed me?
I hope you liked it.

I really like the style here. All your work is great. I have alot to learn.
pretty cool.. but I like your regular style better.. it’s more welcoming. This seems darker to me.
Wow that would have screwed with my head!
Don’t know why, but I get the feeling the Devon in the sketch has Todd Bridges on speed dial. I’m calling this sketch “Scary Former Child Star Devon”
Thanks for the reply guys. When I was done drawing this one, I felt I added too many lines. He kinda looks old and worn. Great idea Greg. Wish I’d thought of naming it that.
I think I might do more of these. What do you guys think?

Yes – please do more! That was great!
And Greg’s comment put what my mind was trying to wrap around but couldn’t right out there. (By the way, I have Todd Bridges on Speed Dial, and he’s not happy about those comments. We got Gary Coleman on three-way, and he said…oh, nevermind – that would just be too corny…)
Considering you used Gary Coleman and 3-way in the same sentence, the result was surprisingly tame for you.

I bow at the feet of the master.
What you talkin’ bout, Devonish!
Yet again, touche. I should just not say words.
That drawing looks so awesome that it would have been believable. The current style works better for comedy, though, and probably takes less time to draw. I remember when Jay Naylor said he’d start drawing his characters as humans. Those drawings were an interesting interpretation. It would be completely silly if you had said it would turn into a furry strip, and Devon was a crab.
