#100 Yup, That Makes 100.

Are you new? Check out the beginning of the storyline.

In case you’re reading this in the archive, there’s a good chance that the comic from 04/01/2009 has been taken down. If that date sounds familiar to you it should. It’s April Fools day, and yesterday I ran one of Dawn’s comics announcing that I was stepping down as the full time artist of STC. And if you haven’t already figured it out yet, Dawn and Tim (of Bullfinch) were both in on the act as we all traded comics. Who’s dumb idea was that?

I kind of wanna keep the strip up for no other reason then to keep the comments alive. I was surprised to find that I might have fooled a couple of you. The real goofy part is I decided to stick with the joke despite my first huge milestone occurring the next day. And there you have it. If you get nothing else from being part of the STCommunity, you know that you have a creator that has, at the very least, an Andy Kaufman like commitment to what he considers comedy. Now whether you think my brand of humor is actually funny? That’ll be for you to decide. So, for those who I’ve fooled and decided to never visit STC again, well I have nothing to say to you, since you’re not reading this. But to make it official, I’m not going anywhere, and I’ve got waaay too many tales to tell about Devon, King (Cool), and the gang.

And…on top of the “news” I had up yesterday, I’ve got some real news to share with you guys tomorrow. don’t get your hopes up too much. We’re not going color, Dawn isn’t gonna be doing the art, and I’m not increasing the update schedule. But check in the blog section tomorrow anyway, cuz I’m excited about it and I hope you’ll be too.

So anyway, back to the show.

For those of you that have been around since the dark ages, to all the new arrivals, thank you for sticking it out with me. I’m happy to have this day come, because I won’t be allowed to feel this proud until STC turns 500. Or Scott Kurtz begs me to put up his guest strip so he can increase his viewership. Thanks again for coming by today. See you again back here tomorrow.

Congrats on your 100th strip! I can see how far you’ve grown since the early comics.

And being a cartoonist that never draws them for some reason, I LOVE your eyebrows.

The ones on your characters. Not yours. Although, I’m sure they’re nice, too.

  2. TL says:

100 coins! Holy crap that’s hard. I’m tired just thinking about it. Come to think of it that was annoying in the original game too.

  3. Greg Bulmash says:

If only each comic represented a gold coin… perhaps someday they will. Until then, 100 manly pats on the back and a throaty “huzzah” in honor of your achievement!

  4. dgriff13 says:

TERRIFIC update! I’ll bet Mario didn’t have that hard of a time with the coins. Oh well, a hard-earned 100.

oooooh, I’m not doing the art here from now on? :0P

  5. Paoken says:

Haha…I thought you were kidding…I just couldn’t understand what the bloody hell you were talking about!

Glad to see you’re hitting the hundred!

  6. Winnie says:

So I went and collected all those gold coins for your new “donations” button for nothin’? Damn! (That was my favorite part of your joke yesterday-the way you said it, but I forgot to mention it.) And as for the subsequent comments yesterday, I loved the “like James Brown said, I need [those] hits”! Gold!

  7. Bob says:

Yes, the joke was definitely Andy Kaufman-like ;) Congrats on making it to 100 man! Here’s to 1000 more!

  8. Kevin I says:

Congrats on hitting the big 100
    Here’s to 100 more!

  9. CyberDog says:

Well, I feel for that one. A few others got me yesterday. I offically hate April Fool’s day. Sorry about the grief I was givin’ ya.

I like how Devon has to physically pull down the coins. That answers my question about the coins the other page.

    Please keep drawin’,

George-Thanks for the compliments. The eyebrows came from the idea that I thought I could usually convey emotion better with them, so they became exaggerated. I think even King had him a pair at one time.

TL-I always felt collecting coins in Mario Bros. (which just happens to be a random game I’m currently thinking about) was way less painful then the other platformers. At least in Mario, you didn’t have to collect all of them from each level as they added up b/n different levels.

Greg-I have that same dream. Each comic does represent 4-7 hours, however.

Dgriff-Mr. McDowell wouldn’t put up with you callin’ his restaurant McDonalds, so I couldn’t imagine why you’d think one of these characters aren’t named Morio. So because of that, yes, yes you’re fired.

Paoken-I figured if I’m gonna joke (even if it’s not that clever) I’d at least be committed to it.

Winnie-I thought a big donate button woulda made a good clue that I wasn’t serious.

Bob-Thanks. I think Andy woulda been more clever, but I love his style of humor. I even did an homage to him in one of the STC’s.

Kevin 1-Thanks. I hope I get to hear that during one of my birthdays too.

CyberDog-No worries about the grief. I was surprised that I “got” anyone. I was serious about considering gettin’ rid of graytones to produce more work, however. I probably won’t do that, but it would get me more readers.

Chiba37-Sorry about that. If I was gonna do a joke I thought doing it in that way was best. That way if I ever did feel that way and I put up a similar post, no one would believe me forcing me to continue on anyway (just the way I like it.)

Thanks again everyone for the kind words for my first little milestone.
